The Elk of Gearhart
One cannot write about our town of Gearhart without talking about the elk.
What a bunch of characters!
This big herd of Roosevelt elk, who normally live in the Coast Range, have decided to make their home in the little beach town of Gearhart, Oregon.
Here they are hanging out in our yard…waiting for the ball game to start.
And here they are having a little lunch in the front yard. That big bull is going to town on that ivy though which is okay with me!
Here they are in the center of town next to the Pacific Way Café waiting for cinnamon rolls and coffee.
They are everywhere….on the streets, in the yards and gardens, on the paths and trails, and also occasionally can be found suddenly standing in your driveway when you are trying to back out.
Out of the way, elk!
They also love to frolic on the beach and swim in the ocean….but then who doesn’t?
I am sharing this really great video about “The Elk of Gearhart” with you.
Take a minute to watch and commune with nature…. it’s really fun!

Good job using the various elk photos from around town. It really gives folks a good idea of how we live down here.
Thank Pat! Notice I didn’t mention all the “gifts” our friends leave behind…thought that might be too much information 🙂
I like them as long as they stay off the highway—I dont mind when they come through the yard–they have a tendency to trim back the brush and ivy from the house as well as lay down a little fertilizer in the process. . . .
Yes – Elk and Hwy 101 are not a good combo!
